Line color vs. Visability w/ mono

Featured Replies

I got back from fishing after lunch and I was doing the whole post trip thing... re-tying a couple lines,  ect, and my son asked me why I use Green line.  He was referring to the mono filament I have on 1 of my set ups.  I typically use braid, braid to floro, or straight floro.  I have mono on only a couple and sometimes I'll use mono as a leader.

I told him I use green, because that's what color I have always bought the Big game in.  We have fairly clear water here, today there was about 3 foot of clarity.

Question is- do you guys with moderately clear water, do u use clear mono, green, blue and does it make a difference?

I felt bad that I couldn't answer his question, other than, green works fine on our lakes

99% of the mono I've used, and still use is either mist green, or camo green, whether the water is clear, or stained. Caught 100's of bass in both types of water.

BTW, the camo is sufix camo elite line.

I buy Clear Blue Stren because it's easier to see above water in most conditions.  I don't think it makes a big difference to the fish.

Yes sir.   I have it in 3 sizes... 8,12, and 20.   It's the only.mono I buy anymore.  I'm still fazing out some others. K.i.s.s.

I use green for two reasons...

1.) it’s there at Walmart...big game green

2.) hey, there’s a lot of “green” stuff down there, right? Algae, grass, etc...if anything is gonna camo against that, it’s probably green.

The validity of number two might be suspect but i wouldn’t know...it’s worked for me up until this point...

I use mainly clear lines but have tried bright blue, orange, yellow and the usually different shades of green.  I have caught fish will all.  My fishing brain says clear and green are the way to go but my analytical brain says it doesn't matter much when I have caught fish in clear sunny day water with bright colored reflective line.

The one that gets me is the orange (Runcl mono).  It's completely visible under water and yet the fish don't seem to care.  I have caught tons with this line.
