Jig rods

Featured Replies

I really enjoy fishing a jig and I’ve been trying to get my combo set up and I’ve tried mod fast action in a 5 power and I liked it but I’ve been trying to try extra fast actions and I got a Dobyns champion 744 extra fast and it is just to soft of a rip and not enough back bone great Texas rig rod but I don’t like it fore jigs just to soft so what is a good extra fast rod that isn’t to tippy and is a stiffer medium heavy ore a lighter heavy. I don’t want to spend more than 180$

Try a G Loomis JWR rod, they have a great taper. You will have plenty of backbone.

Well there's always the 745.

Loomis JWR is a good idea. Depending on the jig weight, hook, and line, I would look anywhere from 853 to 855 (89x if you want the length).

Tbh I don’t want to spend that much I’m gonna sell my powell 724 cause it feels like my Dobyns and then I will have around 150$ I could pay a little extra but I’m not trying to go that much higher

Gotcha. Then I would check out the Daiwa Tatula series. They are in your price range. Often around $110-$125 if you keep an eye out.

Get a Johnny Morris Signature Series 7-6 heavy extra fast. tip is not to soft and will drive any hook home. rod is extremely sensitive. 10 year warranty.

I use a Tatula 7’2 Heavy for my jigs I just wasn’t happy with a M/H. I like having a stiffer rod to fish in the grass.

Why buy another rod when you can exchange the rod by calling a Dobyns and explain your issue.

Dobyns 734 & 735 (depending on jig weight) .

Depends on the jig I'm using, but my favorite all around is an Okuma TCS 7' 3" H/F. It's way overrated on the specs IMO. It's more of a MH/F and there's no way it'll handle the 2oz it's rated for, 1.25oz would be pushing it. It's sweet spot is that 3/8-5/8, maybe 3/4oz range, where most dressed jigs live at.

Tatula 7' 1" Medium Heavy X-Fast is a excellent jig rod ?

I rock a Daiwa Tatula XT 7'6" Heavy Fast.  It's a bad day for the fish on a jig, and I've drove a 4/0 through the side of a face and back into the fish, talk about hooked!

A lot of people prefer a shorter rod, a lot of people opt for less power.  My jigging is typically a ½-¾ ounce and then a trailer, so the heavy is a must for me.  My jig fishing is either casting and then dragging, shaking, or stroking the jig at distance or pitching.  The extra length benefits both.

The only issue I have with my Tatula XT is she's a bit tip heavy, and your budget is higher than mine.  I would opt for a Daiwa Tatula Bass 7'1" or 7'6" depending on your length preferences.

Yeah I have the 744 and it’s just to soft I believe the 734 has less tip so I was looking fore a 735
