I fish waaaaaayyy too slow . But I can’t help it

I'll trade you some of my inability to fish slow for some of your inability to fish fast! LOL

The majority of bass anglers are no more then a casting distance from the bank.

20 years ago I wouldn't see any bass anglers fishing off shore structure with the exception of a few guides anchored fishing live bait.

Fishing off shore structure slows you down, deep water requires very precise presentations to get the lure in the strike zone. Deeper water fishing also requires intense concentration to detect strikes. It's a combination of keeping your mind focused yet slowing down.

It's a lot easier to run the bank casting at visual targets fast or slow, the reason most bass anglers do it.

Studing maps, dissecting structure takes time but is very rewarding.

I've made getting away from the shore and fishing deeper structure my goal this year.  It does require a slower approach and so far it's beginning to pay off in much bigger bass.  Most of my big bass came pre-spawn and fall.  This year they are mostly coming in June and in deeper water.

Is it better to cover more water quickly or less water slowly?   It’s one of the greatest philosophical questions mankind has ever faced.

I have fished my home lake for many years. I know the lake well and I know several places that hold fish. It was easy to get caught up in what I knew and simply made my milk run. I knew when to fish fast or slow. I was usually fairly successful and got into that routine and was quite content.

I tend to fish slowly and got into a habit of quickly bringing the bait back to the boat after it was away from the target. One day I was thinking about how I learned to fish a plastic worm. I cast to the target and fished it back to the boat and thought about how many fish I caught right under the boat.

As a test I made my milk run but fished the each bait all the way back to the boat and was quite surprised at the additional fish I caught by making that one change.

The above has little to do with the speed question ... but.... It kind of does in that I don't cover near as much water but as @Cattalluded to I'm actually being quite efficient while fishing slow.

As I've gotten older I tend to be more calm and don't sweat the small stuff. If I lose a fish I get over it quickly and keep fishing. I enjoy the trip a heck of a lot more and if there's any second guessing it happens when I get home.

I also tend to fish the way I want to which is slow. It's my nature. I will change if needed and on occasion I will cover a great deal of water just to do it. In the end though, I like to fish slow, enjoy my day/night, and ALWAYS very thankful I can still do something I love to do.

Edit: I have no idea why the A-Jay deal is at the bottom and it won't let me delete it. So... Hello my friend and glad you got included in my post, intended or not. lol
