Preferred search baits weedy soft bottom lakes

Featured Replies

Title pretty well covers the question but more specifically in 10 plus feet. I kayak fish with no electronics and just curious how you all would approach this. Do crankbaits lose much of their effectiveness when they can't bounce/ dig into covet in these soft bottom lakes? Thanks guys.

I like to use either a spinnerbait, chatterbait, or a lipless crankbait.  I retrieve slow until I feel grass then I speed up the retrieve until I'm not hitting anything any longer.  In water 3' or so I like a Mann's one minus.

Swim jig, chatterbait, underspin, spinnerbait, crankbaits that run right at the top of the vegetation.

My go to is a swim jig or chatterbait depending on the conditions.

Like every other angler, I have 'go-to' lures, but there are no "search baits" in my arsenal.

All my stuff revolves around catching, and when that isn't happening,

I either change my presentation or move to another location.

Spinnerbait, swimjig, and a 2.8 to a 3.8 Kitech on a Owner Flashy Swimmer,  which is fairly weedless.

Also, a Megabass Dark Sleeper might work well too.

Well i guess another way to put it would have been bait to cover water since I'm not using electronics. Thanks for all the replies.

If you have the right kind and density of weeds, a shallow or mid diving crankbait can be effective. Crank until you feel the bill start to hang, then pause to let it float up a bit, and start cranking again to get through. it's common to get bit right as you speed up again after the pause.

If weeds are too thick or stringy for trebles, try a paddetail swimbait on a keel-weighted hook.
