Witnessed something awesome today, saw a smallmouth follow my live craw right up to the shore and hammer it

Really cool to see them stalk it like that, rare occurrence. I fish a small river in southwest Ohio and it’s always a treat catching them with crawdads that I catch in the river, but this was a special sight.

Depends where you live I suppose. Some places you can site fish them all the time and get to see them stalk and eat the bait regularly. It's always cool to see.

For me a special sight would be a smallmouth on my line. My local lake has some in it but I've only caught 1 this year so far.

Yeah you gotta go to big lakes or rivers for smallies. River smallies hands down fight the hardest.

My local small lake which is more like a big pond borders a tributary of the Missouri river. The past several years it has flooded several times so we got a free stocking from mother nature. We gained 3 tiers of fish:straight trash - bighead carp, I'll take ems/not so bad - white bass and drum and yes please can I have more-pike and smallmouth.

That’s funny you say that about carp I completely agree, I hate when I hook into one of the nasty sucker fish that infest the river I fish. I’m from Dayron Ohio and every time I start to get excited when I’m talking to someone and discover they like to fish I am instantly let down when they start talking about pay lakes and catfish. I just don’t get it, these rednecks love their shovel heads it’s kind of annoying.

Don’t get me wrong there are plenty of bass fishermen around here, lots of tournaments in Ohio but it seems like I tend to run into the catfish fanatics more often.

Smallmouth love crawfish . I've witnessed one following me around while wading . I kept dangling a worm in its face , it would swim up look at it then back off . So I replaced the worm with a craw , dropped it in and that smallie was all over that lure .
