For spinning reels with braid, I like the drag to slip just a tad when I set the hook. Baitcasters, I tighten down all the way and if the fish surges next to the boat I disengage the reel and thumb the spool.

Big bass don't make long hard runs, they make quick powerful hard turns and short runs.

You can't disengage the baitcasting reel with anti reverse spool under pressure without stopping the spool to prevent blowing up the reel.

Make drag adjustments before it's too late.

I guess me and some of the others that have replied don’t catch as big as fish as you WRB! No giant trevallys here in my waters. Stick to your game I’ll stick to mine.

Frogs and flipping it's hammered down otherwise it's 1/4 to 1/3 line weight by feel.

That’s what I do. And my “feel” is likely more prone to be on the light side.

I’d rather have a fish run and pull line vs. snapping it.

I am in this boat.  Been doing it for so many years I just know the right feel.

Not sure if this is sarcasm but honestly, few can say they have caught as many big fish as @WRB
