The water temp in the small shallow river I fish is 62 degrees right now, high of 78 today - would it be a waste to go out?

The reason I’m asking is being injured it is somewhat of a production getting my kayak out and loading it into the river.  With the water being this cold I won’t be able to swim so it’s all about the fishing, and I’ve read in under 65 degree water temperatures the bass stop biting mostly.  It’s really only going to be “warm” for about 3 hours so I’m kinda basing my decision on the likelihood of catching fish. It’ll be 75 at 2 pm, 77 at 3, and 78 at 4, then back down again every hour. Is this enough to warm the water temps to where the fish will be biting or a bit of a gamble?

Don't stop fishing in mid September lol

River SMB will hit any time, in any temps as long as the water isn't hard and you can locate them. It's prime time.

I've been doing a lot of reading on Fall bass fishing recently because I'm a pretty novice angler compared to most people here. From what I can tell, there seems to be a consensus that bass start feeding voraciously in the fall once the water temps get in the lower 70s and they continue to feed well until water temps dip below 60. If you're water temps are in the mid-60s, I'd say it's still prime Fall fishing time.

My understanding is that the bite drops off once the water temperature has dropped below about 55, not 65.  Of course, that's not the only factor involved.  Bass can decide to bite or not bite based on all kinds of different things.  But just going by my own experience, I'd say you've still got a good ways to go before they slow down strictly due to the temperature.

We fish year around in the Mid South. The smallmouth in my avatar were caught in

January. Water temperature was in the upper 40's.

I second this. Just got a 4.52 smallie last night in our river, on a pop-r. 63 degree water. It’s just starting to get good!

There are river systems around here where the best bite of the fall happens when the water drops below 50.

Only way to catch fish is to go fishing ?‍♂️  Unless conditions are just horrible (and sometimes even that doesn't stop me), will I stay home when I have the chance to go fishing.

I think you will find they are hitting well at that temp, I regard low sixties as the point where fall feeding is going well and fish are active. I watch the wind speed and fronts closely however, but regard 60-64 as prime feeding temps. Tight Lines!
