Columbus Day is tomorrow and is the start of the US Open at Mead with 250 boat* field including several Elites and FLW pro's.

This event is our big event every year. This is a pro/am shared weight event a purse of $160k for the pro's, $16k for the amateurs.

* this event sells out every year within a month after the event.

Do you attend the weigh inn? Have you ever fished it? That’s a huge payout for a “non professional” event!

This tournament started in 1981 running 39 consecutive years now. Top pro's fish it, Rick Clunn won twice, Aaron Martins 3 times several top Elites fish this every year.

The pro draws a new armature co angler each of the days and it's a combined 5 bass limit daily, so the am' fish count. All the top local pro's fish this event to jump start their careers, Roy Hawk for a recent example.

I haven't fished this event as the US Open, did when it was called the Abe Scheiler memorial when it held in June, very hot weather. Don Iovino always fished it for 35 years, couple of 2nd's.

PS, the standings are now posted and surprised to see Aaron Martens    In the event currently 21st, Bryan Velvick 10th, Roy Hawk 12th, Britt Hite 39th with low weights typical of with this event, leader has 12.69 lbs day 1.

Tim Klinger won this years US open was 2nd, etc. I don't know of Tim Klinger but It's not uncommon for rising stars to get their start at this event.

Yeah, you just never know. Looks like it was VERY tough fishing, I can't say this lake is like Clear Lake or anything haha
