Garmin Striker 7SV question...

Featured Replies

Been looking at the Garmin Striker 7SV with Transducer for my old aluminum fishing boat.  Plan to mount this up front with transducer on my trolling motor.

Will this package give me side view with the included transducer?  Or do I need to purchase an upgraded transducer?  Thanks!  Daubs

  • Super User

It should have the proper transducer included - the GT-52 is the SV transducer, the GT-20 is the DV transducer...long as yours includes the GT-52, you're good to go.

This^^

I just got one and yes it comes with SV transducer included.

Note the newer version is the Striker Plus 7SV.

***Correction***

Even the Striker Plus 7sv is being replaced, with the Striker Vivid 7sv per Garmin's website.

You need to be moving 4-5 mph for side view to work.  Just thought it should be mentioned since you stated the transducer was going on your trolling motor.  You should be fine if going full speed

Really? 4-5 MPH?

I was hoping I could have it on my trolling motor...just sitting there...then turn the trolling motor sideways and "look" in front of the boat(???)

Ya - side imaging works best when on the move. Down and Chirp work fairly well when still...but still not ideal. You'd have to go to Panoptix or ActiveImaging (gets expensive) to have the ability to 'see' the bottom well while anchored/lock-spotted.

Well, hell...

That messes up that theory. I might have to re-think my plans going forward.

My trolling motor, at max setting, can barely hit 4 MPH. Thoughts?

Get a bigger trolling motor?

Downgrade to a 73CV and stick with just Chirp and Down Image?

I'm looking at a 63CV unit for my canoe...I can hit 5mph - with a backwind...plus 'budget'.

As long as you’re moving at 3-5 mph it should work. If you are sitting still or slowly moving around it will just return a scrambled picture. Also remember that as you turn your trolling motor the transducer turns as well.

Its not a bad feature to have on your trolling motor. You can go full speed down a bank or in a cove without cranking the outboard. The GT52 mounts flush to the trolling motor and is not too large. If the price is similar I’d still go with the SV.

Daubs,

I have a Garmin Echomap plus 93sv UHD on my kayak. Side view works just fine at lower speeds.  You do have to be moving for it to work well.  Sideview is pretty cool technology.  It really helps in finding underwater cover and structure.

If this is the unit your looking at:

Garmin Echomap plus 73sv UHD. It has both clear view and side view imaging. Not to mention Chartplotting and 2D sonar.  Another plus it is Panoptix live scope capable if you decide to go that route.

Keep a close eye on the Cabela's and Bass Pro web sites...I thought I had found a smoking deal...only to realize the item was not in stock or available on-line : (

Good luck!

I can confirm that 4-5mph is a little high. The max speed I can paddle my kayak in most water is around 4mph and it works just fine once I get to close to 1mph. Around 2.5mph seems to be its sweet spot.

Bass Pro as a good deal on the UHD, at first I was thinking it was clearance because they upgraded the transducer for 2021, but I'm not sure the $450 73sv even comes with a transducer

I just purchased the Echomap 74sv UHD unit. Cabelas has it on sale for $400 off but not sure if they even have it in stock. But I found out that a West Marine close by did and they price matched for me. I've also been told that WM's warranty service is great.

WestMarine regularly offers great prices on fish finders on ebay.

I just checked, the EchoMap 73sv that Bass Pro/Cabelas is selling for $450 does not come with a transducer matching the model to their website, but people said in questions that it did, so I ordered a couple which are gonna be the boys Christmas present this year. They have a good deal on the Striker 7sv too which was what I was going to get, but this is a better buy for sure plus I have the 93sv UHD so I can show them how to use it.

The part number listed on the BPS website does not include a transducer according to the Garmin website.  But who knows.  It's all so confusing.  Hopefully it does have a transducer.

Another site to check is The GPS store.

Here is the link for the Striker 7SV w/transducer. Might even be cheaper w/black friday sale.

Yeah, that's what I said. But just 2 and 3 days ago, someone replied in answers and said they got theirs and also a BPS rep replied. So, if I don't get a transducer they're going back.

BPS is selling the Striker Plus 7sv for $380 with a transducer right now - it's a clearance item since they upgraded it for next year. I personally don't think they'll get that much cheaper for a clearance item on Black Friday.

Ya - the Striker Plus units might be heavily discounted as the new Striker Vivid units are due out in a week or two. I may wait and get one of those instead of a Plus.

I'm also seriously considering putting out the cash for a 7 - advantage over the 5 is that you can download maps from the Quickdraw community - and all the lakes in my area that I fish are there.

Ah... I just paid $500 for one about a month ago.  I have a knack for this!  Yes I am sure the reason they are on clearance is the new Vivid models coming out.  They appear to have identical specs except the "vivid" coloration - someone tell me I am wrong.

Delving deeper - they're just adding 5 new color schemes to the available modes...not a huge change. That's it - otherwise the Plus and the Vivid are identical.

I agree with MN.  I compared specs and couldn't see a difference, aside from the color.

The colors look cool!  If anyone can tell us all what the practical advantage of the various colors are (aside from generating sales for Garmin) let us know!

I believe you are right. And the EchoMap UHD transducer was upgraded as well to the GT56 from the GT54, but the rest of the unit is identical. Not sure if the transducer upgrade will be all that big or not, but the old ones packaged with the GT54 are at a great price - which is what I have on my 93sv and it does the job nicely so I'm pretty sure the units I bought will in fact have the transducer, the unit without it hasn't changed so why would it be clearance?

As long as these EchoMap UHD 73svs ship with a transducer, my kids will have the 7" version of the same unit I have which is a nice upgrade to the Striker 7sv or possibly Raymarine unit I was likely going to get them. It's actually kind of nice because if they need help with it, I can tell them exactly what to do
