best trolling motor battery

Featured Replies

Ok on my boat back home i have a 40lb thrust v-2 12 volt Minn Kota foot pedal trolling motor. the battery that we used before would keep a charge for about 8hrs. Now the last time i went home the battery was crap. im j/w what you guys think that the best battery for this type of trolling motor is. i will be getting the boat and bringing to my new house. so im wanting a new battery and charger please help.

I got a wal-mart battery.  With a 1 year warranty, it's basically like a disposable battery.  I went with a 29 series Deep cycle and never had it go dead one me even after a full day fishing.  I have a MG 50#.

As far as a charger, i need a new one too.

A/C Delco maintenance free marine deep-cycle battery.  Size 27 at a minimum.  I'd go with size 30.  I have 4 of them in my boat.  I have plenty of power at the end of a long day against current and strong wind.  Never had a failure.

Lots of different brands will work for you.  Get the highest reserve amps you can find, at least 185.

Trogan batteries along with a Pro Charging system " Great Warrantys "

I have 2 trojan SCS225's that have finally gone bad after 6 years i would say that is a pretty good run for a battery.

has anyone tried the Minn Kota batteries that are made by Trojan??

Are they the same batteries but have differant labels??

In your case I would suggest you go to the base gas station and see what deep cycle batteries are available there. If they don't have any I'm sure they can order one for you and probably save you a lot of money. Another option is the base auto hobby shop. They can order you a battery locally and usually save you money as well, and in most cases they have zero markup or no handling charges. In any case I would suggest a group 27 or larger deep cycle battery.........Good luck, Al

As far as Everstarts go,they were a good deal for me.With a 1 year warranty,I've only bought 2 of them in the last 3 years.About every 9 or 10 months I get a new one.

Really,I am intersted in this thread myself.I got to get 2 trolling batteries(82# MG) and a starting battery for a new boat.I was thinking of just going to Interstates.Optimas are too pricey at $250 a pop.

Anybody know where to find Trojan batteries?

I have been running Interstates for a number of years with good results. I do like their long warranty. Easy to get service since they are everywhere.

Here is the website for Trojan: http://www.trojan-battery.com/ They have a "dealer locator link" on the home page.
