How does Saint Croix determine whether or not your rod was broken due to craftsmanship or an accident?

Featured Replies

Are they strict about this or will they not look too closely? I have 3 broken rods, one of them snapped when I rolled my window up on it ? will they surely be able to determine this, and if so how much more will it cost me? Wondering if it will be worth it.

Call them to discuss your options. Be honest, this ain't their first rodeo.

They may or may not be able to tell if you broke it, but why would you try to cheat the warranty.

I have sent back rods that were damaged in shipping.

I have never tried to send back a rod that broke from my negligence.

What is the standard warranty from date of manufacture? Doesn’t say on there.

This is why companies are coming up with replacement plans aside from warranties. Most warranties cover defects due to manufacturing. A replacement plan usually involves you paying a sum of money towards an accident to get a repair or replacement.

It’s a bummer no matter how or why. But like stated above, be honest about it, St. Croix is often more than generous in my experience.

I agree with not cheating the warranty. St Croix is a great company with great customer service. Be honest and upfront about what happened and they will work with you I'm sure to give you a great deal. Look at it this way the rod is broken because of something you did accidentally so that is not in the scope of the warranty. So if you call and ask them what the options are even if your not happy with what they offer your not out anything. But you may get a very good offer from them and get into a new rod for a fraction of the actual cost. Worth a shot.

Bottom line is a defect will show itself early if not immediately. They all know this so spare yourself potential embarrassment and just be honest.

I would contact them. St Croix is usually very accommodating.

I had a St. Croix rod break, I leant it to my son to fish a lightly weighted wacky rig, it snagged a fairly small and weak weed and broke. I called and told them what happened and that was covered, sent the broken one in and got a new one.

Thanks for all the help everyone, I didn’t mean to come across like I was trying to “cheat” them, like you said they are a fantastic company with renown customer service. I was just under the impression I would be paying a hefty sum even in the best case scenario, so was just seeing if it was even relevant how it broke. One snapped in the window, which We should hang out sometime 100% my fault but the others got snagged on low hanging branches when mounted on my kayak and snapped. Gonna try to call customer service today!

Just called, got a live voice right away, sent me the forms and said $50 for the two one-piece rods total and $25 for the two piece tip! Outstanding, I’m ecstatic. Gonna be armed to the teeth for spring ???

He said there was even an upgrade option where I could pay $40 to replace my Triumph with a Premier, worth it?  The other one is a Premier and two piece is Triumph. All 3 are 6 foot medium light, is that pointless to have 3 of the same rods or is that a versatile size/strength that can be used for a variety of different fishing? I mostly creek fish for smallmouth which I’ve found them to be perfect for although if I’m going to have 3 it would be cool to know I can have one or two of them rigged for different waters/fish. What reels would you recommend? I have a Shimano Nasci that is absolutely the smoothest thing I’ve ever used. Thanks! I feel like Christmas came early!

I have never owned a Triumph but have owned several Premiers.  I would say the Premier is worth the extra money primarily because it is American made.  It may even have a better warranty (not sure.  I know the Avid and up do).   SC had fantastic CS.  Two years ago I purchased a B -Stock Legend Elite spinning rod and accidently  broke it the next day .  I was honest with them (I was fishing near their plant) brought it in and I was able to get another rod for no additional charge.  Now they did not have the exact same rod in B-Stock so instead of a LE I got a Legend-X which is the same rod just with a split grip.  I did have to pay a few buck more because the LX I got retailed for a few bucks more.  Always been pleased with my SC rods!
