obviously there’s no single best approach to tackle organization, but i feel like most of the articles i read are a bit light on *precisely* what ppl use as second and third order criteria (weight, length, depth, lure type sub genre etc) to sub organize once you get past the top level of CB, SB, jig, creatures, worms, etc. i’m pretty new here so i especially want to 1) understand ppls reasoning for why and 2) how your criteria may differ from one category to the next - eg “for jigs i do jig type 1st and weight 2nd but for CBs i always do shallow/mid/deep depth 1st, then CB type - balsa, flat sided, square bill - 2nd, then silent vs low pitch vs high pitch 3rd” or “i like to subdivide my worms by subtype before length” or whatever the case may be.

I don't have quite as much as AJ does, so there's less boxes. Try to keep general types together.

Example - far left is this is 'Crankbaits - DT & Squarebill'

 

Each box, I use the compartments and label them - for example the upper-left of my jig box.

I've got two 3700 size bags that fit under the center seat of my canoe for the lures boxes.

 

My plastics are kept in the original bags and grouped in 3607-10 boxes

Two Advanced Angler bags (one BPS, one Cabelas) hold the plastics boxes and fit under the rear seat of the canoe.

Well I can't bring that much being in a kayak.  So jigs are sorted by type then color, cranks go in the box in order of depth range, jerks the same, topwater is easy to see what type just by opening the box, plastics are just sorted by type then color, etc

I just finished putting my hard baits in alphabetical order in my storage cabinet.

 

I use this method as a "warehouse" for my hard baits so when I go out fishing I can easily decide which ones I want to put into a clean tackle box.

 

Took me two days to get the tackle in their respective tackle boxes from last year's fishing and another half hour this afternoon to put the tackle boxes in alphabetical order back in the cabinet.

 

Now, for my plastics.....a disaster so I will not attack them right now although I did organize my Senkos over the weekend and looked into the crawfish tub and closed the lid.

Not if you've ever run out of what they're eating right in the middle

of a wide open & world class Micropterus dolomieu bite. 

Seems whatever I have the LEAST of on a trip - that's the Bait.

Those KVD speed bags are nice. I just recently picked a couple up thanks to @A-Jay, I need to order a couple more already. 

I've got a peg board with all my hard baits in the basement. Plastics in bins from ikea. 

 

On the water I have two of the big/deep planos for hardbaits: 

1) crankbaits and spinnerbaits/chatter (I just cut out the middle section of the plano box - you can then lay like 10 on top of each other)

2) Topwater / Spybaits

One Shallow Plano:

3) Jerkbaits

I then have two plano edge boxes:

1) Terminal tackle (hooks, bullet weights, tube jigs, pegs, swimbait heads etc.). I put tiny stuff in little plastic screw top jars from a craft store. 

2) Jigs and anything pre-rigged like worms, jigs, swimbaits etc. I remove this at end of summer. 

 

I carry about 10-20 soft plastics in a mesh camping bag that does up:

- senkos

- craws

- tubes

- swimbaits

- something to go on a shaky head

 

Last I have the tiniest box you can buy for ned rigs/TRDS. 

 

This all fits in a kayak no problem and isn't that heavy. I don't think it has weighed me down. I rarely am missing anything.
