How much is too much?

Featured Replies

I have 8 total in the boat.

6 casting

2 spinning

I have a smaller boat TR17, and I think it starts to get cluttered easily on the deck if they are out.

I would like to get a couple more though for sure! I have way more bags / 3700's full of bait than I need.

  • I had 23 in the Skeeter rod locker when I brought them in for winter maintenance.   Every one absolutely critical.  Even the ones that never came out of the locker all last  year.

I take way too many, but they all have their own purpose (for the most part). I take 18 combos with me, but there are times where I only use 4 or 5 in a day. I keep 10 rigged up for soft plastics, 1 s

Too much for me would be 1.) Causes marital issues 2.) Puts me into debt.  Other than that, this is the healthiest addiction I've ever had.    However, I feel like there's something to the 6

This is very similar to how I approach it. I might have a 7'2 MH Expride with a 1/4 oz Texas rig and a 7'2 H Expride with a 1/2 oz Texas rig. Both could very well have a sweet beaver on them. Right beside them could be a 7'2 MH Zodias with a 3/16 oz and a 7'2 H Zodias with a 3/8 oz and a baby brush hog on both.

Heck I might even pitch all 4 at the same stump before I move on. LOL

This is exactly what I meant. Line and hook size might also be adjusted.

Pretty obvious that the Bait Monkey is the ultimate arbiter of this dilemma. And the Bait Monkey sez the formula for the correct number of rods/reels is:

n + 1

n = the number of setups you currently own.

I have to agree. Every time I try and say enough, I find a great deal ironically.

I think the BM Formula is n + ♾

Bank or boat?

in a boat, as long as they fit in a locker feel free to fill it up. I have maybe 15-20 on the boat between two people. Bank fishing I can’t imagine dragging more than two along, and I would only bring one if I planned on moving around as I fished (vs sitting in one place). If I am bank fishing I will have an extra setup in the truck in case conditions change or my primary goes down.

It all depends on the “bank”.

I have two spots where I fish the bank that’s maybe 15 seconds from the truck. If I fish those spots I’ll bring 3-5 rigs, a chair, the whole Plano box, etc.

But if I’m beating the bank, no more than two. Normally a MHF baitcaster and a MF or MXF spinning rig.

usually 2 or 3 in my yak, and between 7-10 in my boat.
