Lure identification needed

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me the manufacturer of this vintage lure. It is stamped Swimmin minnow on the belly. I assume that is the model and not the manufacturer. Thanks for any help you might have.

I think that's an Original Bayou Boogie made by Heddon  Whopper Stopper

I'm certain this is correct.

It’ a Pico swimming minnow.

I can assure you that is a Swimmin Minnow made by Tackle Industries. My Dad used these in the 1960's before we had Rattle Traps.

   From Nichols Fishing Lures:

"The invention of the quick-vibrating fishing lure that had made Nichols successful became known as the Pico Perch. One story states that in Spanish, the word pico means sharp or beak-like. The name actually came from the first letters in the company's name Padre Island CO. The sales information stated, "Here's the surface swimmer with the willing wiggle."

Many lures using the vibrating action were produced by other companies. Some lures used the triangular shape of the Pico Perch, including the Swimmin Minnow made by Tackle Industries of Shreveport (on photo below), Louisiana, the Bayou Boogie made by A.D. Mfg. Co. of Monroe, Louisiana, and the Sonic made by Heddon of Dowagiac, Michigan.

Thank you for all the replies everyone that is very helpful. I may need some more lure ID help later.

A-Jay solved the mystery . It resembles a Pico Perch . I have a few  . Mine do not have Swimmin Minnow molded on them. Good lures by the way . I have caught lots of bass with them .

You are pretty good at digging up the archive stuff. I think the majority of those colors are for the Pico Chico. I can't tell them apart, they all look the same. Thanks for looking though.

How can you tell the difference between Bayou Boogie and a Pico lures. Thank you

There were I believe 4 different manufacturers all making the same thing.  Fishing Fools is a swimmin minnow because it is literally embossed into the bait.  The other 3 have very slight differences on the nose slope to use as an ID.
