Hummingbird Helix G3 vs G4 vs Solix

Featured Replies

Hey yall, Lance here from Texas. I'm 28 and about to get more serious about my bass fishing. I have a procraft combo 200 that I'm wanting to add electronics to for fishing. I'm looking at the Helix 10 inch. Right now there is a sale for the gen 3 version for 1500 and the gen 4 is 2000. Is the gen 4 worth the difference. I want the unit to last as long as possible. Also looking at the solix 10 inch as well. Anyone with experience with these units, advice would be greatly appreciated. Tight lines and happy fishing!

The two main differences is gn4 you can get a 15” screen and NMEA capability.

It means it has a port that you connect if you have the compatible sensors installed on your motor/ accessories.
I forgot gn4 is also wi-fi compatible.
imho it’s not worth the extra money.
And about the Solix I don’t own one but there are post on here that guys that do wish they would have gotten a Helix. But that’s personal preference and opinions.
Hope this helps.

It's a communication standard for marine electronics - like TCP is a computer communication standard.

I'm a first generation Solix owner.  It has nice feature but I've had lots of issue.  I've been able to work around for the problems for the most part.  They are very sensitive to power fluctuations and when I first bought them there were many bugs in the software.   It seems to take Humminbird several years to work out the bugs in a new line but that doesn't keep them from selling them.  Hopefully, they've addressed most of these issues with the new Gen3 units.

Thank yall for all the insight. This will be my first electronics on a boat! I think I'm leaning towards the helix 10 gen 4. That way it'll grow with me for many years to come. Hopefully.
