5/0
After looking through past posts on skirt making I decided to give it a shot. These are my first two efforts. The Brown/Purple is 2 tabs Brown, 1/2 tab Purple. The GP/Brown is 1 1/2 tabs GP, 1 tab brown. How do they look to you more experienced at this? Are the colors in the right proportions? I wanted to keep it simple with color and color placement until I get more comfortable with the process. If I wanted to put an accent color in the middle would it show as a bar or would it show as the skirt opened up on the bottom? Thanks to all who have posted their experiences in the past/present on this subject! Joe

Michigander
Looks better than my first jig! Did you end up doing bands, wire, or thread?

Kinda a PITA getting the completed skirt on the jig and then adjusting the strands. As I get better at it I’ll find o-rings or bands that are larger and easier to get on the head, then tie them with wire.

Eventually you will be comfortable enough with the wire that the oring method is a bigger hassle.?
Super User A-Jay Posted March 7, 2021 Super User Share Posted March 7, 2021 Nice job. And I'd be trimming about 1/2 inch of the end of those beauties. Especially as not to inhibit the action of an 'action' trailer. A-Jay
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted March 8, 2021 Super User Share Posted March 8, 2021 Those look awesome! I can imagine the sense of accomplishment you had!? Magnify that feeling by about 100% when you catch fish on them! Good luck 5/0, your addiction has just started. ?

Approximately 3/4”, that leaves a bit of the head and claws of a trailer exposed. Should they be a bit shorter? Joe

I just don't want the shirt impeding a craw type trailer action. So either the trailer need to be longer or for a more compact presentation, I cut the skirt back sufficiently. Sounds like you're on track. A-Jay
5/0
Update on the jigs made. I used them at a club tourney last week, unfortunately no takers! I do have a follow up question though. The skirt material is silicone and 55 strands. I noticed it didn’t flare well while in the water. If I reduce the strands to 45-50 would the skirt have a more pulsating action. I’ve seen articles and posts that rubber skirts are more lively, but can pose problems when storing, so I’d like to stay with silicone for the time being. Super User Jigfishn10 Posted March 19, 2021 Super User Share Posted March 19, 2021 Hey @5/0, sorry about the tournament, that’s a bummer. Strand count is a personal preference IMO. It’s also my experience that you won’t get the “flare” you want with rubber band. At least I couldn’t. If you can get a piece of wire around you skirt and twist it down pretty good you should get that flare. It also depends on how long the skirt length is. Try trimming some of the top laying strands down to about the hook length maybe even a tad more and check that how that is in and out of water. Should be a remarkable difference Good luck
