Average Bass Tackle Length of Cast?

Featured Replies

know that I cast over 100 yards last year when I got my new Tatula Elite. I was blown away at how far it cast lighter, high profile lures like a Buzzbait or jerkbait!

So, being a guy with aging and waning levels of testosterone, I thought - hey what if I tied a heavy lure on and tried to see how far I could actually cast - you know, best case scenario?

So I tied on the heaviest, compact, Little Cleo Spoon I had and gaver Hell!  Serves me right - about the first 20 feet out, one of those ill-timed wind knots did its thing and “SNAP!” The lure was now free... free at last to soar - and as far as I know still hasn’t landed yet...

  • Reading this we have world class casters! Amazing how far you actually cast when casting on the football field with yard lines. Try laying down a 40” hula hoop on the goal line and try casting to it f

  • When I use backing I do half the spool based on top diameter of line. So probably about 60-70 yards like said above.   My longest casts are maybe 50 yards of wind is at my back. Less with bait caster.

Man cannot believe a thread like this last as long, more than half of this thread post about just a few guys pessimistic on their cast and tried to hit a nail on his coffin, for what?

Ah, it's all in good fun. Nobody is pessimistic because everyone knows that no one's casting a chatterbait 525 ft or even half of that. If you're miffed, just be grateful this thread didn't morph into a discussion about the best axle grease for ride-on lawn mowers, which it easily could have.

Just an observation from watching BPT a minute ago. Wheeler was throwing a frog and throwing it a long ways. JT says, man he is throwing that thing a mile. Marty says, how far is a long cast anyway. JT jokingly says, 7 miles. Then Marty says, 25 yards, what? JT says, he's throwing it at least 40 yards. I know those guys don't know a lot about fishing, but those are realistic numbers being thrown out there.

I guess a long cast is relative but both Marty and JT know a lot about fishing.  Both had very successful professional fishing careers.

Sorry... that’s the challenge with the written word.  It can be hard to tell.
