I see these guys every March. The yellow spotted salamander. I have seen packs of lizards I think could have been Creme brand that matched these beautifully. The spent .410 case is 3 1/4” long, so this would make quite a meal for a bass. I’d guess it to be close to 10” in length. These salamanders are on land currently but I read of them moving to ponds to reproduce and spend the warmer months. I thought you guys would enjoy seeing the live example of a lure we use. 

I dont know if bass would eat these guys.

The yellow spots are a warning that they are poisonous.

They are suppose to have a bad taste to a predator.

But they do make lures that match the color, so someone is using them.

we used to catch those things in creeks when we were kids while we were turning over rocks looking for crawdads.

I once won a tournament in Rodman on a 4" chartreuse pumpkin Zoom lizard. It was in January, cold as hell and nasty.  The bass wouldn't hit anything, so I went to a Mojo rig and 8 pound spinning tackle.  I caught a limit of small fish when most everyone else zeroed.

Black with yellow dots is a killer combo. I read where Tommy Biffle said one of his favorite color jigs was black and yellow.
