New to baitcasting question, Daiwa Tatula CT 6.3.1 vs 7.1.1

Featured Replies

Hello all.  New to baitcasting reels.  Purchased a Daiwa Tatula will be delivered in a month or so.  Checked my order, thought I ordered a 6.3.1 but ordered a 7.1.1.  Planning on doing some dumb things new anglers do with their bait casters till I figure things out.  Going use shallow crankbaits, worms, jigs, frogs, etc.

Question, will I even notice a difference between these two ratios?  Assume someone with more experience would.  Should a contact my vendor and correct my error or just leave it?  Looking for a good all around reel to start with.

For an all-around reel - I prefer a 7-ratio. 6-ratio I use for crankbaits, 7-ratio is what I use for jigs, moving baits, jerkbaits, T-Rigs, topwaters...pretty much everything else except tossing lures into thick weeds...then I go with an 8-ratio.

Thank you for your thoughts.  Maybe this a fortunate ordering mistake on my part.

The 7 is a great all around speed. You said shallow cranks, so I assume squarebills? The 7 again is an excellent choice. You want to fish those fast and bash them into rocks and wood. A 7 speed Tatula really isn't that much faster than a lot of 6 speeds.

Is it a standard Tatula 100? If so, the inches per crank is 29.8" which is would be good all around.

I'd prefer the reel you bought for everything you listed minus the cranks so I think you actually got the better of the 2 reels for your needs.

Great, thank you all for your input.  Will keep the 7.1.1.
