Hi everybody, I’m in search of some advice for a rod, I am a young angler so I don’t have much to spend. My cousin passed down an Abu Garcia blue max casting reel, with thirty pound braid. I’m wondering what rod to get for my heavier bass lures (1-2 oz) and occasional light saltwater use. (I would like to spend around $50 if possible)

Daiwa Aird-X. Great rod for right around $50.00.

For around or under $50.00 I purchased a Lews Hank Parker casting rod at my local Wal Mart, the Lews is available in 6’-10” or 7’-0” and is pretty much the same as the Lews carbon fire rod at Dicks sporting goods where they carry a few additional lengths including a 7’-3” heavy power fast action that would fit your needs.

Large lures like that, and a bit of salt, I'd look at the Lightning in your price range. I second the Aird-X as well, a lot of stick for the money.

X3 on the Aird-X. Started with those and though I've upgraded most of my rods, I still have two Aird-X rods in this years arsenal.
