Chatterbait question

Featured Replies

So its early spawn here on Cherokee lake in Northeast Tn. My question is how well can a chatterbait perform with spawn? (im new to fishing them) also what types of weather do you toss it in?im guessing wind is your friend with these

I have caught bass using a chatterbait similarly to jig. I have casted up to the bank and hopped it up a couple times, and then swam it back to the boat. However saying that, I think there are better baits for bed fishing.

Chatterbaits can work very well when the bass are moving up to spawn, but are not yet in the shallows spawning. I have thrown them in all kinds of weather. You can also make some modifications to make them run deeper or shallower as well.

Chatterbait is one of the first things I throw most any time surface temps are above 40.  I make them tell me they don't want it.

Unfortunately,  my Jackhammers do NOT spawn

Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~

Along with a jerkbait, a vibrating jig is a solid performer for me early season.

@InfantryMP noted some good info above.

My version is to present the bait low & slow.

Here's some recent footage of what that looks like:

Thank you guys for the tips. im a kayak fisherman and we have the biggest tournament of the year coming up this weekend and i love the chatterbait so any tips helped

i always have a chatterbait tied on spring, summer, and fall.

I look at a chatterbait similar to a spinnerbait but a little more versatile.  I typically only fish a spinnerbait if there is some chop on the water.  Chop isn’t necessary for me with a chatterbait.  I typically don’t have a chatterbait and spinnerbait rigged up at the same time but almost always have one of them rigged.
