Can't decide which size EWG hook for a 3.8 swimbait, any help is appreciated

I’d take the 3/0 without a doubt

I would do the 3/0 also.  I don’t want the hook getting to close to the tail where it can affect the action.

definitely 3/0 and even use 3/0 for 4.3 and 4.8 as well, Believe me it will make your hook up ratio to the moon.

3/0 for sure just forget about 4/0

I did not create that below. I saw it on Instagram last year and took a screenshot as it was a solid reference and a good representation to what I practice, granted not all hook sizes are the same across mfgs. One companies 2/0, may be closer to another's 3/0 and vice versa.

 

I stopped buying weighted hooks and swimbait heads a while ago other than the Dirty Jigs Guppy heads I throw on 2.8's & 3.3's on occasion.

I now use my worm hooks and pin the eye with a toothpick and use pegged/bobber stopped bullet weight as the head. Action is great and they are weedless. I do have some belly weighted 4/0 hooks that I use on the 4.3's and 4.8's as they also serve double duty for flukes on some occasions and keep the keel weighted some to improve the roll action.

 

This solved my problem of having to have a bazillion heads with different weights and hook options.

I dont throw bigger Keitechs/Swimbaits often, but when I do....this is how I do it and it has worked extremely well.

3.8 definitely the 3/0. Anything bigger will interfere with the action. They gotta have the tail thumb and rolling action. 

Outkast 4/0 jighead is no problem for me on a 3.8.   Even 10" spots don't have a problem eating it.   Caught close to 50 the last couple weeks, haven't lost one yet.

 

The Megabass body balance head uses a 4/0 or 5/0 can't recall, works well also.

 

I think the length of the hook shank has more to do with impeding the action than the hook size/gap.

X2.  Had these small brand 4/0 ewg hooks that were the exact same size and thickness as a Lazer Sharp 3/0 Superline ewg.  Now I hold the hook up to the bait to make sure. 

3/0 but also use a 2/0 with an underspin.
