As stated above, the snap puts extra weight on your popper which can disrupt the physics of the topwater bait.

 

Try a RICO and see if that popper produces more strikes. The RICO has its own popping noise that, for some unknown reason, produces more strikes than any other topwater poppers I have.

*20 lb. braid on a bait cast reel ? If so with no digging in line issues - then you are doing well !

My top water/jerk bait rod has 20lb Power Pro on it as well.

Very little pressure is put on it compared to braid on a flipping/jig setup so the dig doesn't happen.

This was taken with a hidden camera at a popper urgent care clinic, classic injuries of abuse seen from poppers being forced to be tied to braid and snaps. Help stop popper trafficking...
