Looking for a good smallmouth bass fishing rod and reel.

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, I’m looking for a good and reliable smallmouth bass fishing rod. If you have any suggestions please let me know. Thank you!

Are you considering a casting, or spinning combo and what size/weight/type of baits will you be using?

Oh sorry for not mentioning, but it would be a spinning rod, medium light or medium. I’ll also be putting 6-10 pound line on it.

Fury’s are nice. I got the 7’ ML and caught thousands of smallies on it. Great for the price.

Pflueger President XT-30 - size close to a 2500.

7' Okuma Reflexions ML/MF - 1/8oz-5/8oz lure rating.

Right around $150

Extra $30 - upgrade the reel to a Pflueger Supreme-30.

Fenwick lineup is solid. Ive used both the eagle gt and hmx and i like them alot.

What's your budget? My smallie-snatcher is a 7' medium fast Expride A with a 2500 Stradic FL. It's a fantastic rod. Makes me wish I didn't always gravitate toward the baitcaster. But. I always do.

Mid-point in the thread he said $180 total - just the Stradic alone blows that out-of-the-water.

Good drag is quite important for lighter line and smallmouth. I've been really happy with the smoothness of the Diawa Legalis drag, even before I polished the metal washers it was awesome. Now it's basically perfect. That would leave you about $110ish for a rod.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm getting enough air.

I have a Loomis NRX 852s jwr and an NRX 872s jwr both with Stradic 2500 fl and both make great smallmouth outfits

The NRX alone is 3 times his budget of $180.
