Bed Fishing Lures/Rods

Featured Replies

Curious to hear what everyone's favorite bed fishing lures are, but more importantly, what rod you pair with them to get the job done.

Thanks!

Bed fishing, I won’t do it.

an old timer that used to come on the annual church fishing trip would use a jig head w/white grub.  That’s so he could see where the bait was.

Bed are not eating but removing egg eaters from the nest.

Bass will remove a stone if it bothers them so the lure isn’t important but the color is so you can see it disappear to hook set. White or chartreuse grubs on 1/4-3/8 oz jig or short drop shot or weightless Senko all work. Use whatever tackle you can cast accurately so the lure ends up in the center of the nest. Wide brim hat and good polarized sunglasses are essential.

Say you have confidence is several rods to place your lure where you need it to be.  What power and action would be your go to?

Jig MHF, w/ 12 lb , spinning  drop shot MF w/8 lb. or whatever you use.

On the bed:

7'2" MHF

20# Red Label

1/4 or 3/8 oz weight

4/0 EWG

Strike King Rage Bug

I tend to use natural colors instead of the typical bright whites.  Cast way past the bed and ease the bait back towards the fish, while super-lightly shaking the rod.

I target Pre & Post spawn fish. Never spawning fish.

Smallmouth or largemouth?

How clear is the water?

Largemouth.  Really clear and bank fishing

I'm not a huge fan of bed fishing either but I will do it some. The rod and reel set up doesn't matter.

Anything that you would pitch a jig or creature bait with will work

.Personally, I like a white tube .
