So my mom tells me that i must come home today after school to rake leaves.

I get home, and talk to my step dad and he says since i wasnt feeling good this morning that we werent going to rake them anymore. Okay, so i go to my room and chill for awhile and wait for my mom to come home.

She comes home and i talk to her for a bit, and then she whips out two cards. Me, very confused, open them up while i see her grabbing her camera. Inside there were two cards, one said happy early birthday, and the other said happy early christmas. Now very confused, my mom was grinnin like no other.

She then told me too fallow her out to the garage, and this is what i found.

Its a 14 ft v bottom jonboat with a 25 horse marnier motor. It also has a ( i wanna say 32? lb) trolling motor on back. Its electric start also!

Even though it was raining we took it out for a few quick runs today, and she ran great!! Shes fairly fast i must say too! More than plenty for me.

Anyhow, im very excited and cant wait to take her out for a real trip soon!!!

That's really cool, man. You are going to love being out there on the water in that. Just remember, safety first. Boat ownership is a big responsibility, but so much fun.

Three things i would do immediately:

1.  Hug your parents (that is a fantastic present)

2.  Make sure you have the required safety items

3.  Take a boating safety course

Congrats!  I spent many years learning to fish out of a similar boat, but mine only had oars, LOL.  Definitely take a boater safety course, and study the rules of navigation.  Wear a PFD!  I have a Mustang AI, and I forget its even on.  Another tip is to go up to the USCG website, and see what it takes to pass a Coast Guard inspection.  That sticker will save you many stops by CG and Sheriff patrols.

Also im looking into the online boaters saftey course today. Even though im almost 18, which i will be legal to drive it alone, i still want to take the course and learn the ropes of boating.

What a great gift form great parents!  The boaters safety course is well worth taking.  Despite the fact that I am in my sixties, I retake the course about once a year.  That said, be very careful when on the water.  There are a lot of idiots out there who haven't got a clue.

Nice boat. When I was younger I spent countless happy hours fishing from a 14' V Polorcraft w/18hp Johnson. Some of my best fishing memories... That's what happens when you get old-you get nostalgic :.

I would also recommend wearing a PFD (the inflatables are nice) and taking a safe boating course. I learned most of my lessons the hard way. It is a wonder I survived and didn't hurt anyone else while doing it. Good luck and enjoy the new boat 8-).

If you really want to make Mom happy, put a picture of you and her on the inside of your boat. Then each time you take the boat out, you can look at the picture and thank her.

I guarantee she'll love you to do that.

congrats on your new boat.I got my first one in my teens.These great folks on this forum are very helpful.I'm gonna take a computer course for a boating safety certificate which will soon be required in my state.The two biggest things to remember are safety and respect.

1-ALWAYS wear tour PFD.

2-Take the boating safety course.

3-Always make sure you have the kill-switch hooked up.
