Recommendations for an affordable quality spinning reel for braid $70 to $130

Featured Replies

Hello I used to be a regular on this forum, took a break from fishing for a while tho. Time to get back to it. Thread title says what I'm looking for. Any rod recommendations to pair it with would be appreciated also. Thanks guys.

Daiwa BG 2500. Will tolerate light salt duty, metal body, and braid ready spool. It's a tank that will take abuse and last. No weird bail issues or line lay quirks. I have one on a Tatula XT 7'3" MH and 30lb braid. I usually go commando this time of year, but will tie on leaders as needed,

I would recommend the Shimano Nasci for the price range you are looking at.  I have the Shimano 2500 Nasci, 3000 Daiwa BG and 2500 Fuego but prefer the Nasci.  The BG is built like a tank but to me is too heavy for all day casting (to be fair my BG is a 3000 which is larger) and it's not as smooth as the Nasci.  I have been one of the unlucky ones that has had issues with my Fuego so I wouldn't recommend it (I know others will disagree but basing this on my experience).

not sure what the price is but i saw some videos on the new shimano ultegra 2021 and it looks insane for the price

How about these....Okuma Epixor or Shimano Sahara?

You didn't tell us what you'll be doing with it but my Pflueger President on a Shimano 6'6" Clarus (medium) has given me many years of flawless service spooled with 8-10lb braid.  This is exclusively my Weightless T-Rig rod.  Looks like retail on the whole rig would be about 130.  probably find it cheaper shopping around

It would be for finesse presentations with 10-12 lb. braid. I have a like new Pflueget Supreme from 2011. Will definitely utilize it along with my choice of a new rig.

The Supreme will do exactly what you want - no need for a new reel...spend the extra on a really good rod.

Yep....you're good to go with the rod of your choice.  Just want some new gear?  Buy another Supreme or that Pres I talked about.  The Supreme is just a little fancier version of it.  I know more expensive reels might be a little more "refined" but I honestly can't imagine any scenario in bass fishing in Missouri that a more expensive reel would do something my Pres or your Supreme can't.

? Thank you

Don’t discount the Quantum’s in that price range. Accurist, Energy, Vapor, or a Smoke if you can find a deal.

I like the BP Johnny Morris Signature reels as well.
