Thoughts on alternativelures.com and painting hardbait blanks

Featured Replies

Anybody here have experience with alternativelures.com? They sell incredibly well priced knockoff crankbait blanks. I was planning on buying their blanks to save the money, and then painting them myself with a simple rattlecan.

The details of the paintjob don't matter to me, I just care about the overall color scheme and the action of the bait. Thoughts? Is this achievable with a rattlecan or do I need fancier equipment to paint these blanks? Is alternativelures.com a good site? Are their blanks comparable to the real thing?

They have good blanks, I've bought several swimbait blanks from them. Not exactly the same as the real deal, but close and the price is good.

I haven't rattle can painted any, but I did buy a big pack of Sharpies and have "painted" some with those with good success. Just make sure to scuff them up a little before painting to help hold the paint.

I have tryed rattlecanning, but im not that talented. I went way too heavy with it and got runs. Sure it could be done though. I ended up buying a paint brush and cretex. That is working better for me, but im still learning.

They have some good blanks for sure.  I started out rattle canning it.  You have to have patience for dry times if you want any sort of detail.  But it is possible.  Once I moved to acrylics and an airbrush, I can finish baits in hours rather than days.

I have started playing with this stuff for quick jig head paintjons and it does dry fast
