Swimbait Rod

Featured Replies

Happy 4th of July!  Looking for a good Swimbait Rod.  Budget is not really an issue.  Was looking at the Tequilla Baccarac but wanted to hear some other options before I make a decision.  Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

What weight swimbaits are you intending to throw..? As that will determine which rods to look at.

The rod in question is rated to 4 oz, but the sweet spot would be around the 3 oz mark.

Dobyns has a great lineup of swimbait rods but we'll definitely need to know which types of swimbaits you'll be throwing. The Baccarac is short for a swimbait rod, and if you're getting a dedicated SB rod I'd definitely recommend something longer so you can get more distance. If you're limited to taking just a few rods with you and need them to be versatile the Baccarac would be worth the purchase.

I'm thinking no heavier than 2-4 oz.

For treble hook swimbaits my absolute favorite is the Omega by Leviathan rods. They are worth every penny. Just pick the power that fits your intended bait weight range.

Thank you!  I'll give them a look!

Thank you!  I'm limited right now.  I can only take a few rods with me.  Currently have a M+, MH, and H rods.

One thing I forgot to add is that the Omega's are true to their weight ratings unlike a lot of other rods, so if it says say 2-6oz, it will throw that whole range, and you wont feel like it is going to break while casting the top end of the range.

Thats it, all you need to know. Just make sure to pair it with  200 or even 300 size reel with good drag.

all depends on the weight of the lures

F5, LowDown Customs or Leviathan. Each make a rod that'll exceed your expectations, and throw almost any bait you want.

Swimbait rods are like any other rod designed to perform a specific task.

Your lure choice is 2 to 4 oz, single top hook, line through or treble glide baits?

A custom rod builder will ask those questions along with reel make, size and line??? All affect rod performance.

Over the counter rods make compromises to accommodate averages, not specifics.

Dobyns DC806HSB will do everything within your limit information without wearing you out casting long distances.

Irod IRG805SB  gen 3 will also work very well and the handle can be removed for travel and storage at lower cost.

The reel is very important. Shimano Calcutta D or Tranx size 300 minimum.

Tom

PS, Swimbait rod without a fore grip my choice.
