I’m thinking of doing double duty with my Dobyns 705 CBMF for cranks and spoons. The clip would make switching out between the two baits faster. Spoons would be 3/4 oz. and have barrel swivels attached. Is there a downside to the clip to swivel attachment?

So the spoon already has a barrel swivel attached? In that case then the snaps are fine.
 

I have tried using snaps in the past but I didn’t care for them. I’m pretty quick at tying up a knot anyways. The ones I did find handy were the Mustad Fastach clips. It takes some getting used to but no more jamming your fingers like when you’re trying to open a more traditional snap. 

No, other than it will catch more weeds than without one.

Yes. And the snaps are Owner Welded Quick Snaps #1 rated at 33 pounds.

Thanks. No weeds where they will be fished.

   If you're going to retrieve them with a steady retrieve, you're good to go.  On the other hand, if you're going to twitch and snap those spoons, I'd cut the barrel swivel off and use a ball-bearing  swivel with a duo-lock snap. An irregular retrieve with a spoon can really mess up your line              jj

They are Spro Power swivels. I will be jigging the spoons, so if I went to ball bearing swivels I would be okay with the Owner snaps?

Nope! Almost all the big trout and salmon I've ever posted caught outside of winter were caught on spoons this way. Works just like you think it's going to work.

   What brand and model of spoon are we discussing here?  When you say you're going to "jig" the spoons, do you mean something like a Hopkins Shorty or Bomber Slab Spoon? Those are thick, heavy-bodied jigging spoons that don't really mess with your line all that much. Or are you talking about what I would call a snap-and-flutter routine with a flutter spoon? Flutter spoons are much, much thinner. Some people snap them up off the bottom, and that is when your line gets an unbelievable twist. Even though I call that a snap, some people call it jigging. You're in California, and I have no idea which terminology is prevalent there.

They are P-Line Lazer Minnows or Kastmaster, both 3/4 oz and I will be snapping them off the bottom. The Spro Power swivels I have are smaller, but still have a good pound test rating. I hope this is clearer.

That will be fine. I use Spro swivels too.

Swivels with chips are useful and I do need to use them more, especially for spinning gear. With that said, they will catch more grass because it's one more piece of terminal tackle 

I always cut the swivels off of my slab spoons if they come with one. You go through more line but flipping docks I'll  just cut back 25 or 30 feet of line a day until I need to respool. 

 I think line twist can be a good thing spooning docks , they like to see 'em spin.

You know you can troll that twist out. 

Yeah, I don't bother with it.. After a day the line get scuffed up from boat lifts and rubbing on dock cables ect. I just cut it back and start fresh.

I get that too with all the zebra mussels growing on the pilings. Cut it off it's frayed or nicked.
