new Garmin 93sv - are these images normal?

Featured Replies

I just bought a new Garmin 93sv, and I really like it, but I have some questions on the images that I’m seeing. I know this kind of question probably gets asked all the time, but I’m hoping you can offer some additional insight above what I’ve been able to find on my own.

attached are some screenshots that I took of the sonar for a brush pile that is in about 20 to 25 feet of water. First of all, for the Side imaging view, why does it look so blurry? It looks a lot more like bait, then it does a brush pile. Is this normal, or is this something I’m doing wrong on my end?

honestly, even the down imaging that you can see in another picture, it looks very pixelated, almost like it’s zoomed in really far. Does that make sense? The 2D image looks very nice, and what I would expect to see.

Any thoughts or advice please?

Reminds me of a time when you could smack the TV in the side and everything would clear up.

Hard to say since we don’t know what settings you have at time of picture. I agree 2D looks fine. Start by getting rid of that orange/blue color palette - lol. It’s horrible. Reminds me of H’birds red/green palette which is used for hardness differentiation, but terrible for actual object viewing. Also looks like the right side is reading weak, and/or the left side is picking up interference, maybe from the engine - or both.

Hard to make solid judgements off a single screenshot, so I’d recommend keep playing with the unit; sensitivity, contrast, scroll speed, and color palette. Also graph and compare shallow vs deep and see if they’re much different. Maybe post a couple different ones to this thread next trip out if you’re still not satisfied.

I went you YouTube and looked for about 3 or 4 videos of pros who shared their settings. I used them as a starting point for me, then dialed my Lowrance units in from there.

That could be settings, color issues, or even interference.

Clutter top to bottom is usually suspended debris or over powered gain, looks like debris from the screen shot.

The Xmas looking tree could be stacked fish on a brush pile, way point it and fish it!

Since the traditional sonar image looks OK, it's probably a setting that's messed up for the down imagery.  The first thing I would check is the gain.  The amount of noise directly under the boat in your side imagery is unusual.  Also experiment with different frequencies and make sure the screen resolution isn't too low.

This is what a GT54UHD transducer should provide in side & down imagery over a very rocky bottom
