Finally received both the Curado DC and the Expride. But wouldn't you know it, work kept me busy all week. I'm off today and tomorrow but it's 35 degrees outside and I've also been battling a cold all week.

I'm going to chug some Nyquil and try and sleep for the next 16 hours and hopefully I'm feeling well enough tomorrow to get out there.

Have you done any reading on how to tune the DC to the line and lure you're planning to use? FWIW, I set the digital brake setting based on either braid or fluoro, then after that all you can do is adjust the tension knob. I feel like my best results come from the old method of tightening your tension knob all the way, then hang your lure from your rod tip and loosen the tension knob until it starts to drop, then adjust it looser from there depending on the conditions. The DC will help manage overruns a lot, but that tension knob still has to be adjusted.

I read through the documentation and watched a video or two. I also spool braid on all of my baitcasters and put 40 pound braid on my new DC.

I don't have any problems with backlashing any of my baitcasters. The reason I opted for the DC was that it supposedly gives me the versatility to throw some lighter baits, hopefully with more distance in my casts than my other baitcasters.

I spend the majority of my rod/reel budget on the rod. It’s the heart and soul of the combo, if I had 500 to spend I’d use at least 300-350 of it on the rod and go cheaper (slx?) or maybe even used on the reel. You’re clearly shimano centric so I’d look at expride (rumors are all new line up coming in spring), or poison adrena.

 Merry Christmas!?

I have the slx DC and the curado DC.

They're both awesome..

Can't go wrong with either of them.

Congrats on the bonus....I might be in the minority, but to me the mgl spool is a little better with light baits, sub 3/8 total.  Again, just for me, where the DC shines is really bombing mid range weights and any throwing into the wind.  I currently crank with this reel because I can just launch it a mile, almost seems possible that someone better at casting could spool it.  If this ends up true for you, I hope you'll find it as awesome as I do for all the midrange stuff on windy days.

I agree with @softwateronly, the Curado DC doesn't really shine with lighter baits. It will handle a 3/8oz lure like a weightless senko fine, but anything lighter than that and it will struggle. It shines on spinnerbaits in the wind, oblong shaped plastics, and anything mid-weight (think 1/2-3/4oz). I found it mediocre for skipping and pitching, since I think it needs spool revolution time to self-correct, and you just don't get that on short casts/pitches. You can dial it in for skipping, but I think Daiwa SV's do it better.
