Humminbird Helix vs Solix and G3N vs G4N

Featured Replies

Looking at getting a 12" humminbird. Any thoughts on helix vs solix?  I would prefer the solix since this will be my main side imaging/nav unit and would be nice to just press on a spot for a waypoint. But the solix are only g3n right now...only the helix are g4n. Which from the sounds of it, isn't a big deal but not real sure.  I think g4n might just have better integration with future live imaging but not sure. otherwise I think they are pretty much the same. Thanks for your thoughts

I’m a touchy feely guy.  I bought 3 Solixs when I switched to Humminbird. Some of the bugs in mine have never been cured even though some were returned to the factory for repairs.  From what I have read and heard the Helix is the trouble free workhouse of the line.

I run 3 helix units and never had a issue. I thought of Solix for the touch screen but as mentioned above I went with dependability and the Helix does everything I want or need.

Helix have been out longer and G4 is referring to 4th generation Helix.   There have been 3 versions of the Solix so the latest is called G3.  They will all work with MEGA Live if they have network capability.  The N in G4N on the Helix means it is networkable.  For example the Helix 7 G4N can be networked but the Helix 7 G4 cannot.  All Solix units have network capability so the N is left off of them.  I think I've seen some people add the N on the Solix but not in any Humminbird documentation.

There's also the new Apex which is like the Solix but come in 13", 16" and 19" models. It has a higher resolution screen and cost a lot more.
