Lews Custom Pro vs Shimano Curado 150 MGL

Featured Replies

Which of the 2 reels will throw light crankbaits the best with 10lb-12lb mono

Line cap is the same between the two, but the Custom Pro SLP's spool is significantly lighter, so it'll be better with lighter baits. Adjustment are completely external, which is another plus, but it costs $80 more.

I was thinking the spool was lighter.  Good to know.
Thanks

I threw a 1/16th or 1/32nd oz crappie jig with the MGL

I’ve used my 150 MGL to throw 1/16 ned rigs. I can’t speak to the Lews but my Curado 150 has been great. Since the 70 MGL just went up $10 and the 150 is still $199 I really don’t think the $79 is worth an extra $40

If we're recommending something other than your original options now then take a look at this:

Thanks for the links for the BFS type reels. I have been looking to buy one and build a light action rod. I spent time with both the Curado 150 MGL and the Custom Pro casting a Strike King Series 3 1/4 oz. Neither are going to break records for distance lol but both are fishable. After i finished i pulled the 10 lb off the curado 150 MGL and put on 12 lb fluro. That seemed to cast further.

How low would you go weight wise on these Alpha Airs?  1/16th?

The Alphas Air is a true BFS capable UL reel. The Alphas SV TW 800 is a gradation above true UL BFS, but with a line cap similar to a standard 70 sized reel. You can also use it for typical baits. Not something you'd want to do with the Air.

Spinning reel... just kidding (laugh here), I cannot promise you either of those reels can throw anything lighter than 3/32 or a little lighter than 1/8th. If you are willing to go down the rabbit hole, prepare your wallet, credit card, mortgage, and invest in a pair of pliers because those gold teeth may just need to come out. ? all joking aside guys abovehave good reccomendations.
