  1. I have never purchased a Ark rod but I've been convinced I should try one, is there a big difference between the two? Or is there another Ark rod that's even better but not going to break the bank? Thanks!
  2. If I just have to get bit then I will find a rockpile or brushpile offshore say 15 to 30ft and just milk a jig, shakyhead, or drop shot. Other than that this time of year I'm crankin
  3. So I was looking at getting the new Dobyns maverick rod, in 7ft moderate-fast action. I have no experience with a true moderate action rod, so is the mod fast a big difference from the original moderate? Also, would this rod be limited to just throwing squarebills or if I was in a pinch could I throw a chatterbait or light texas rig? Thanks!
  4. On my home lake we have a slot limit of 13 to 16in. My Grandpa caught a like 17in largemouth talking on the phone.
  5. Which ever one I'm using at the time? Curado MGL out of the ones I've used
  6. MGL is way better super good casting distance even in the wind. I don't have the slx DC but I do have the curado DC and I like the MGL better
  7. I have one so I thought I should try and take advantage of it I am gonna be using 10lb flurocarbon
  8. Thank you all for the responses, it is greatly appreciated!
  9. One other thing, I am thinking about a 6'6 rod, is a medium or med heavy better suited? And a fast action or moderate?
  10. I have never thrown one for more than 20ish casts then put it down because I have no confidence in throwing a Jerkbait. But watching these MLF events and seeing guys like Wheeler catch a bunch of fish on them tells me its a technique I need to put time into learning. So I need you guys help with getting a rod and reel dedicated to jerkbaits. I would like to spend 250 or less all said and done. Also if you have any advice for throwing a jerkbait that info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your time!!
  11. Should I get the 7ft med or the 7'1 med/hvy? I will use it for KVD 1.5, DT 4's 6's and 8's. Rarely a rattletrap but I would like to be able to use it in a pinch. Will the med power be unable to handle these lures? Thanks guys!!
  12. Largemouth: T-rigged speed worm Maybe 5lb she was a big ol post spawn female so she was on the thin side Smallmouth: PB&J football jig 4lbs I think
  13. Not a huge mono guy, but usually Stren if I do. For Fluro, I use seaguar, red label and Invisx, Berkley Vanish. They all did good.
  14. Oh man, well I have only used the curado. Its definitely not a bad reel at all, fishes fine and I've yet to fine a "con". That being said, I think I would rather have got 2 K's or maybe another Curado MGL 150( which is great) because I don't feel much of a difference so I feel like I'm paying for a just the DC casting system which doesn't justify me spending that much. SO I would choose the Bantam. Others more knowledgeable will fill in more. Tight lines!!
  15. Dobyns Champ XP mainly because that's the only rod I have in that price range
  16. I went to cast a ned rig on a spinning reel and the line slipped out of my fingers mid cast, I slammed that hook past the barb into my head. My Dad yanked it out, ( I literally felt my skin tear) told me to take off my shirt and stuff it on my head, as the blood was streaming down my head, and put my hat on. I did and kept fishing!
  17. I only use straight braid for frogging or big umbrella rigs that I don't want to break off. Other times its Fluro 85% of the time, mono occasionally if like I buy a reel at bass pro and that's what they spooled on it
  18. What are some good hook and weight brands for this technique? Fishing anywhere from 30 to 10 feet of water
  19. I threw a 1/16th or 1/32nd oz crappie jig with the MGL
  20. You don't. You throw a shaky head or other finesse rig lol. I have never had much luck either, mainly because I don't have as much confidence in it. Edit: Sorry DitchPanda, posted this and then saw we kinda said the same thing
  21. interesting, i didn't know that so yeah, probably get something else. (I haven't had trouble with mine)
  22. This may only work for me, but I have a Shimano Curado 150mgl on a Dobyns champion xp 683. Its a MH rod but with Dobyns being on the lighter end action wise it is perfectly capable of throwing those 1/4, and 3/16 oz lures. Also i was able to cast what a believe was a 1/8th oz rooster tail with that reel. This is also a 470$ combo so as your just getting back in to fishing maybe this isn't for you. For a budget rod and reel a Berkley lighting rod and a Pflueger president would make a great creek/ river setup. About 100$ for the setup. My 2 cents, hope it helps and good luck!!
  23. The ones in hot sauce are good, also sometimes smoked oysters are good. Vienna sausage is really good
  24. Try and learn from the day and become a better fisherman from it
