There are hundreds available today, especially by custom builders. Most that make it to market swim well. The FB Swim Bait groups are picky and are unafraid to register their displeasure, so most do what they're supposed to do. Take a look for yourself.

I'd say it depends on what you're looking for in a bait and also what you're wanting to imitate but a KGB Chad Shad has to be one to look intoif you're looking for the best.

That's why I mention what kind of forage the OP wants to imitate, because if he's trying to imitate a crappie, he'd be hard pressed to beat one of these.

 

But for a shad/shiner/herring imitation, the Chad Shad is a great option.

My two favorites in this size range are both by Golden Belt Customs. I like both the 7" Harvester and the 8" Sickle. The 8" is the one painted in the Golden Shiner pattern, and the 7" is the Pumpkin seed pattern. 

There so many. Hinkle, Phony, Deps, KGB, Tiny Klash. I just got a Cooper B8s Miner Glide, awesome bait. DS customs makes an awesome glide
