Rod recommendations

Featured Replies

Orders a Shimano Bantam MGL…needs rod recommendations…6’6” to 7’2”….mh fast action…1 piece….400 or under….looking for a do it all type rod

I have developed a liking for Dobyns rods for their feel and balance. I know everyone brags up G Loomis, but to me they always feel tip heavy.

For an "All Purpose",... I like either a 733C or 734C. I like lighter rods. So I like the 733c, which I consider a lighter "Medium Heavy" and use it for things like paddletails, swimjigs, spinnerbaits. If I want a little more uumph,.. I grab the 734, which I consider a lighter "Heavy", and use it for things like a buzzbait, Gurgle Toad, or rage craw on a weighted swim hook around laydowns or cover.

I like the Sierra or Champion series, depending if I want a little slower or faster action (Sierras are a little slower). My 733C is a Sierra and my 734C is a full handle Champion.

This is just personal preference, but when it comes to baitcast rods I prefer one in the 7'-7'4" range.  I have no experience with either rod (above my pay grade), but from the many reviews...and member comments...my first choice would be either a Shimano Expride or GLoomis MBR.  I could live with a little tip heaviness given the reputation of the MBR rods...should that be my choice.

If someone makes a bad $250-$400 rod, then shame on them.  No doubt some are more versatile than others, tho.

You got that right!

6'11" medium+ Poison Adrena would be a good option if you can find it in stock somewhere.
