Loomis 852s for skipping Senkos?

Featured Replies

I sold my Conquest 842s and replaced it with a NRX+ 852s. I like really like the 852s, but the tip is very fast. I use this rod for Senkos, Neko’s, shaky heads, tubes, etc. I skip Senkos and Neko’s a lot. Should I have stuck with the 842s since it skips easier?

I skip all my weightless wacky worms and 1/16th oz weighted Nekos with my 852/Steez SV. Works great!

I have the same 852/Steez setup and it works great.  I don’t have a skipping setup…I skip with most of my spinning & baitcasting rods.  The only rods I don’t skip with is the RipFreak (whippy…hard to be accurate) and my longer specialty rods.  If you can do a low to the water roll cast, stay within the ratings, and have a reasonable rod length, you should be able to skip with accuracy.

Not trying to make you feel bad but the 842S conquest is a killer rod. The 852S is nice too but that fast action and power for a Loomis M was one of a kind in the conquest. They both are great tools for different things but the conquest was one of my favorites. I ended up selling a while back and shouldn't have.....Maybe I'm the one that feels bad :)

That’s like asking me which one of my kids I love more! I have the 852s and love it, but the 842s Conquest seems to be a great stick. My only complaint of the 852s is the is isn’t the best long cast rod but it is plenty capable for what I do. I cannot compare the two directly but I do have the 782s Conquest and if I were be solely dock skipping I would probably grab the 782s. But I don’t have a ton of docks to fish and the ones I do have are elevated enough that rarely would accuracy be a major factor.

Agreed I have both rods and strongly considering selling the 852S to get another Conquest 842S I just enjoy fishing that rod so much.
