Looks like he turned to avoid that skinny buoy.  There was one earlier that he cut close.  Not sure what they are marking, but probably not a slalom course.   If they mark shallows or channels, no reason to shave them.  If you're going too fast to see markers in time....(or other obstructions)....you might be going too fast

One thing I don’t understand about the video is the boat runs for a while at 10 MPH then at about 2:05 the motor trims down and speeds up on it’s on.  Why?

Two things always happen in my boat. Everyone is wearing a PFD whenever the big motor is on. It doesn’t matter how fast I’m going. And the kill switch is always hook to the life jacket. Sometimes you don’t get a second chance to learn from.

I’ll admit that years ago I was not as adamant about using the kill switch in our family tiller fishing boat all the time. Things changed when I got my own boat 6 years ago.  Nowadays I hook mine directly to the PFD when I’m using the big motor too.

The 2 things that are beyond comprehension is the initial bailout on normal water conditions and the boat recovering to increase speed on it’s own.

I can see how the occupants get ejected would result in the OB torquing sideways, that is what happens. The boat circles tighten into a spin. Often the boat boat returns to the exact spot the wheel was released running over the occupants.

How the engine straightened out on it’s own overcoming the prop torque and then accelerating in it’s own is beyond comprehension.

I was at the SaltenSea over Easter back in 1960 with our family for a 500 mile race. We were setting on the beach watching a boat water skiing when the boat hit a big wake ejecting the driver out of the boat and the skier a young girl fell. The boat without a driver circled and ran over the Dad killing him before anyone could reach the him. The propeller  wounds were awful. We were the first boat to reach him, the young girl was historical watching the boat run over her dad serval times in a tight circle.
