Mega SI on Ultrex or just Mega DI

Featured Replies

Looking to finally upgrade my Fortrex to an Ultrex.  I am also upgrading electronics from Lowrance 9s on bow and console to Helix 12 or 15 on bow and probably Helix 10 on console.  I am unsure whether or not to get the integrated Mega SI transducer on the Ultrex.  I formerly used side scan at the console and 2D at the bow.  I can see the benefit of the side scan integrated in the Ultrex but I think I would use more side scanning on the console.  Looking for any advice on set up here.   My thought is Mega DI on Ultrex for down imaging on Helix at the bow and then network both units off the transom SI transducer.  Really appreciate any thoughts from you guys.

When I switched the Mega si wasn’t available on the Ulterra.  I wish that I could have gotten it.

I’ve never used SI on the trolling motor because I have 360 imaging but I think SI could be useful on the trolling motor.  For example, you can use it to maintain a certain distance from a underwater weed line.

Go for it. SI is nice on the bow.

Russel marine made a video at one time that discussed transducer on TMs. Their conclusion was to not get the built in transducer and in a case where you have to pick one, get the cheapest.  Their point was to attach the transducer you want, especially as time goes by and you want to upgrade. Their other point was if it should break or fail, you’re not out of the water because of an in service TM.

Just food for thought. As for what one to get, I do like SI up front, it has literally shown me where to cast and catch.

Go with Mega+ DI built in, then attach a Mega 360, which can be used in either SI or 360 mode.
