1984 bass tracker

Featured Replies

So I’m looking at a 1984 bass tracker with a mercury 45 motor I can’t find the year for, I have a picture of the serial number and it appears to be (0B113116) so idk what year it is, the baot appears in good shape and it’s only 3000. Any common problems with these boats and if you know anything about the motor what would be great

The motors or the boat itself? And what makes them legendary

Just a good tough boat that tons of people still have. Also they are easy to restore and modify, I see them on the water frequently from that era. My buddy just sold one that he ran ragged, driving it through shoals all the time. There’s no way it should have still ran or floated and it did both

A Mercury 45 hp is called the Classic 50 and was made for only 3 years, 86, 87 and 88.  So the boat is probably the same age.  I have one on my Grumman Renegade.  The engine is an inline 4 cylinder and is very reliable.  Take a compression check and check the lower unit oil.  The mileage isn't the greatest.  I bought mine about 3 years ago and have been running it several times a week, all year, since then.  Top speed is just under 30 on mine.

Do you happen to know anything about the older mercury motors any common problems?

Solid engines, they are typically still running in 2022 despite being manufactured in the mid 80s
