I'm surprised that a government entity recognizes Good Friday as a "holiday."

I'd go - time of day really has nothing to do with it.   Fish in my profile pic? Caught around 11:30am on a mostly clear day with bright sunshine on a spinnerbait in about 3' of water.

  • Best time to go fishing is anytime you can go fishing.   I catch more big bass at night, oh wait I fish more at night.   If you fish more in the middle of the day guess when your m

I’d go. I don’t even wake up before 8 any day of the week, and certainly never hit the lake before Noon - lol. Another thought - nearly every big bass figure here, or that you read about, has stated m

That is surprising to me. Usually there is separation of church and state.

Doesn't quite work out that way....Christmas is a national holiday after all.

But Easter itself isn’t a recognized national holiday, so why is Good Friday?

Nope - just a dozen states recognize GF - it's not a Federal Holiday, just a State Holiday in those 12.

Easter is always on a Sunday. Which is always a day off. Unless you’re a working stuff on shift work with Tues/Wed off lol!!

Some states a weird, I know NM didn’t close schools on Columbus or Veterans Day. I’m a fed employee (fire fighter) we get days off state folks don’t and vice versa. Though I’m hardly home to have summer holidays off do to fire season.

I'm an early person. In the summer I try to be on the water when it's light enough to see. Being a canoe fisherman I avoid the wind, which kicks up as the day heats up. I'm usually off the water by 11am. Later is better this time of year, but it's also more likely to be too windy to launch.

I need to learn more about this lake. I only fished a small part (very small), but I liked what I saw.

This may help give you a start.

Edit:  I keep saying I am going to pull out the kayak and give that lake a shot.  The nice thing about many of the state park lakes is they do not allow motors so you don’t have to fight the boats (not sure about Raven).  Also, some of them were part of the Operation World Record program and have produced some big fish.  Marine Creek is about the same size (200ish acres) and produced a 14.5 a few years ago.

Yes, but if it was a nationally recognized holiday, Monday would be the official day off. That doesn’t exist.

They allow boats, but it is a no-wake lake. I saw jon boats and bass boats, but the vast majority were simply running on trolling motors or the engines were at idle.

My inflatable is great for ponds, but a kayak would be much better on Lake Raven. That’s a lot of water to cover in an inflatable.

In my experience with bass fishing, there's "windows" of opportunity throughout a day. Miss one and there's always the next one around the corner.

Early morning bite is overrated. So go whenever you can!! I can concede during the hotter months, time of day might have an effect especially in warmer climates. I've seen it myself here come August but I prefer to sleep in :snore:

Over the past season I've actually started to prefer the evenings, get there 2 hours before sunset and fish till dark. As soon as the sun dips below the tree line, I usually get a flurry of bites.

Me too!
