Me and a kid I know just got into kayak fishing and are going to drive down from Columbus Ohio. Honestly guys we are paddling and will have about 6 or 7 hours to fish maybe. How are things down there right now? Any good areas for kayaks? (Safe and have fish) Are there any areas that don’t allow outboards? Not looking to ruin anybody’s spots we just want to be safe and catch and release a few fish since it will be a long day of driving. Thanks!

There are no paddle only spots, maybe floating the hiawassee down into the lake. It’s cold water, rapids, trout, that kind of stuff. Maybe in a marina would be a no wake zone 

 

that being said there are kayaks and canoes fishing everywhere , just be careful and wear PFD. It’s crowded, really crowded

That's a lot of driving with the pointy wading pools whistling in the wind for a one and done in big water. Good luck.

Big Ridge state park has a no motor area which is large enough to fish for most of the day. I've been in a couple times and grabbed a few good ones. 

So there are no kayak only areas. What about areas where bass boats can’t get to?

Not many, if any. Soddy daisy has a few backwater areas but a bass boat can go just about anywhere a yak can 

Isn't Soddy Daisy the same as Dallas Bay? That's where I'll be camping so I think I'll be limited to the Dallas Bay Area and maybe be able to run across to the Harrison Bay. Any tips for fishing these areas? Can we ledge fish in here still or will we have to fish the main river channel? Any other tips?

Sorry I’m just now seeing this. Soddy Daisy is way up stream from Dallas Bay, Dallas bay is where Chester Frost park is. I attended the bachelor party where we rented a house in Dallas Bay a few years ago and we caught decent bass and a lot of catfish and gar with jug lines. The back of that bay will be mostly all vegetation, I just used weightless worms on the edges of the grass. It’s not too far of a paddle out to the main river but there will be cabin cruisers and house boats and all that jazz but you can still fish the main channel

There is a spot on the east side of Hwy 27 just south of Thrasher Pike. I am not sure if you are still able to access it, but I am pretty sure it is a TWRA area. Plenty of bass and panfish in it and no big boat access. 

Taking the kayak down next week and will be in dallas bay most of the time but I wanted to try a creek. Maybe a smaller one that would be better for kayaks and harder for big boats.

You will find that the boats can get most anywhere you’ll go with your kayak. They are raising the water to summer pool, so this also gives the boats the chance to get in some of the shallow spots. Soddy creek is a good area. There are also spots out of Chester Frost Park that can produce.
