Dobyns Fury or 13 Fishing Omen 3 dedicated crankbait rods?

Featured Replies

Since I enjoy fishing crankbaits the most I've decided to pick up a dedicated rod and have narrowed it down the the Dbyns Fury 704 CB and and 13 Fishing Omen 3 OB3C72MHM. Both are med-hxy moderate fast rods. Given it's popularity the Dobyns seems like the obvious choice but hearing more and mor good things about 13 Fishing. It's 3 hours to the closest shop to be able to cast either. Dobyns has the broadest lure range but they are known to over-rate. Several places are running sales on the Omens so they come out cheaper. All my cranks are in the 2 to 12ft range and run 3/16 to 5/8 oz.

I hope you mean the Fury 705CB - the 704 only comes in a fast (704C)

I have the FR-705CB and it's been a great crank-rod for the money...and no, I don't consider it over-rated for the lure range.

I recently picked up an ALX Ikos Hustler.

It's definitely a composite as far as sensitivity goes, but its been fantastic for slinging shallow and medium divers and keeping pressure on fish. It's a neat blank. It's quite parabolic, and is plenty flexy for slinging 1.5s and pinning fish.... but somehow It'll also boat flip 4-5lb fish with no issue (not recommending this).

I'll add, there was a slight issue with the first rod they sent me, but Alex (owner) provided THE single best customer service experience I've ever had from a fishing company in a long time. The guy really cares, and it shows.

Yes, I meant the 705CB. Guess I need more coffee this morning!

I would go with dobyns, no doubt about it.

Wow I think I'll go get a beer. Then select a Dobyns Kaden Crankbait Rod Kd 610 CB or a KD 734 CB. As I have stated before I have had the KD 610 CB  for over 3 months now & said how I like it with a jerk bait. I was out 4 early mornings this past weekend (0600 to1100) & played around with a couple of other baits too. A Bagley Balsa Squarebill & a Rebel Deep Wee R. The rod had no problem with either bait.On the rod I had a 16 Scorpion 71 spooled with Sunline Shooter Defier 11 lb. I did not do squat up shallow & stayed there to long. I moved to a ditch that runs up to 15 feet, tied on the Deep Wee R & caught 7 keepers (14 in ) I did not weigh them but they were all about 2 1/2 lbs. I do not have the KD 734 CB  but I am thinking it's just a longer version of the 610. I am going to contact Dobyns rods later in the morning to find out. If I am right I will get 734 if not another 610 & another 16 Scorpion 71. I am sold on the 610. If you check around you can find them for 20% off from time to time.
