Side-to-side jump jerkbaits

Featured Replies

Hi there,

Would you mind if I ask you to share your secret jerkbaits,

which jumps side-to-side widely even with a thick mono line(eg. 20lb mono)??

As far as I know Berkley Stunna meets the above conditions(wide side-to-side jump with 20lb mono),

but that's all I know.

FYI, Megabass Vision 110 is actually not my favorite because it assumes a thin fluoro line...

(I'm fishing from bank, and I take 1 rod. Less tackle constraints are better for me.)

Thanks in advance.

Is wide side to side jump referring to a "walk the dog" ish head movement or are you more talking about the body rolling during the jump?  I throw the Stunna and do pretty well, but have better results with a Jackall Rerange MR and Nishine Eerie darter 115sp.  My line is almost always .33mm -.40mm which is definitely thinner than most 20lb mono.

20 lb mono you need to use a loop knot to keep the lures nose up.

RI Vixen is a good sharp turning dog walking top water with rotated hook hangers, back on the market now.

R2Sea Rover is similar to the Vixen hook hangers and flat sided to to create flash and splash sharp turns.

Nether are jumpier however, both are excellent walking lures.

Owner Cultiva Zip n Ziggy will jump but it’s a smaller size lure and 20 lb would be over kill.

Rebel Jumping Minnow in larger will hump on 20 lb line but isn’t a walking lure.

Why not take a second reel spooled with fluoro…it only takes a few seconds to change out reels.  IMO, 20lb mono is not a great choice for jerkbaits.  The strength is overkill and the larger diameter floating line is going to influence the jerkbaits performance.

Underwater jerk baits, confused by “jump”?
