Have you seen the new technology in this outboard?

Dual counter rotating props on an outboard.

Not on the one in the picture. That twin prop 350 has been out a few years now. I suppose the blacked out cosmetics are impressive, maybe? ?

What is the purpose?  I've seen props like that on wake boats (not outboards) and always wondered.  I'm just curious.  I'm sure it's not needed on my 50 horse. :wink7:

Suzuki makes great motors and they help make this site possible through their sponsorship.  You have to appreciate that!

The idea is that the second, counter rotating prop counters the turbulence the front prop causes, so the water leaving the propellers is moving in a straight line, not swirling. Makes it more efficient. There's an electric hydroplaning boat built in Sweden that uses a twin prop electric outboard and despite a tiny prop diameter it's incredibly efficient. Just don't bang them into rocks!

BTW My 20hp Suzuki doesn't need twin props either.

Actually, I was talking about the 250 SS series: https://www.suzukimarine.com/outboards/ss-series/

In addition to being a V-6 4-stroke, and having better gearing for stronger holeshots and better top-end performance, this caught my eye:

The NEW DF250ATSS is the first SS Series outboard to feature compatibility with Suzuki’s state-of-the-art Suzuki Precision Control (SPC) electronic shift and throttle system that will integrate with the Suzuki’s Digital Pro-Pedal Foot Throttle. Suzuki SS outboards were created to bring powerful hole shot, strong mid-range pull and great fuel economy to anglers and boaters.  Now, by integrating with Suzuki’s proven SPC system, boaters can add crisp, responsive shifting, silky smooth acceleration and sports car-like operation to the mix.

Ahh, that IS cool. Their own fly by wire hot foot.

That is cool. I think Evinrude used to have something like that, you could switch between the foot control and hand control, so could go through idle zones with the hand control, then switch to the foot pedal when you were running, for example. Best of both worlds, like an ultrex.
