jerkbait rod

Featured Replies

I fish on a budget and wanted to ask you guys what you think would be the best rod for a 110 size jerkbait out of the rods that I have. I have no preference on using a spinning rod or casting rod. The rods I have are:

6'10 ML XF St Croix Bass X Spinning Rod

7'1 M F St Croix Bass X Spinning Rod

6'10 MH F Lews Mach I Casting Rod

7'0 M Mod F G Loomis Crankbait Series Casting Rod (this is a really nice rod that was a gift from my father. Wouldn't have been able to afford it otherwise. Ha!)

7'0 ML F Bass Pro Crankin Stick Casting Rod

Also, feel free to give me a suggestion out of these rods that would be the most ideal for smaller jerkbaits such as an x rap or a Vision 110 jr. Thanks so much!

If it were me, the 6’10” ML Bass X spinning rod would be my choice.  110s have light wire hooks and I slap the water with 7 footers.

X2 This rod would pair nicely with braid & a leader.

I've saw that most people use jerkbaits with straight flurocarbon. What are the benefits in your opinion to using braid to fluoro with this application?

The braid has no stretch & allows for direct input to working your bait & sure hook sets. The moderate action rod recommended will put enough give in the system to keep your fish pinned. The overall feel of braid gives me an advantage over using fluorocarbon.
