Megabass Destroyer P5 Dark Sleeper

Featured Replies

I’ve fished this rod twice now. Specifically with 3/32nd 4/0 twistlock lite hooks and Caffeine Shads. Using 14lb fc sniper bms.

The rod just does not seem to have the back bone I need to drive the hook home. Lost two 2 lbers today.

Anyone else have experience with this rod and feel the same way or is It just me?

People use all kinds of worm hooks with ML and M spinning gear, I don't think it's the rod.

Maybe not. This thing paired with the zillion will cast a long long way. They were really long hooksets.

I wondered if you would find it too soft.  As a straight copoly/fluoro fisher...

I tend to prefer more powerful rods. You can always repurpose the sleeper.

I’m thinking I may need to sell It and get something with more bacbckbone.
Here’s what I bought It for:

Senkos, fluke/caffeine shad w/ 3/32 screwlock, underspin, dark sleeper, Sleeper gill

Every one of those I think needs more rod.

Yeah I see what you mean, your initial post was pretty vague lol. I always use a pretty heavy rod and go at least 7'3" for long distance t-rig fishing.

I’m really used to heavy and extra heavy rods (amistad, Dobyns flip rods, etc). Maybe I just need to get used to It. And not cast as far.

I make long casts with that same bait on 12 lb flouro. Things to consider:

EWG exposed hook points when rigging

Smaller diameter wire "super line" EWG hooks

Switching to braid and leader

Sweep and lean into the fish type hookset instead of a short hard yank
