Froggin' Failin'

I always have a backup bait at the ready when froggin. Usually a creature bait on a flippin rig or a grass jig. Pitch it into where the blowup was, and it often gets bit on the initial fall.

Nooo! Say it ain't sooo! I've already spent so much money. Why do I need an 8-speed reel?

Great tip. I'm going to do this too.

You don't. It was just a Bait Monkey joke. They are nice for fishing frogs and bottom contact baits because they take up line so fast, but they're certainly not required.

Ah, thanks for clarifying. I have three baitcasting reels. I'm in Florida right now, but when I get home, would you mind if I listed them to have you suggest which one would be best for frogging? Anyone else, of course, is welcome to suggest too.

I'd simply recommend the one with the fastest gear ratio and the strongest drag. When fishing any bait in heavy cover, it's important to hit 'em hard and get them coming your way on the hookset, then don't give 'em an inch at least until they're clear of the cover.

Thanks, T-Billy. I'll compare the three reels.

I use to put a couple of Venom glass rattles inside the frog, didn’t think of adding BB’s like Glenn suggest...duh!
