Sources for River Smallmouth Seasonal Movement?

Featured Replies

Hi. Does anyone know any good sources for learning about the seasonal movement of smallmouth bass in rivers? Almost everything I am finding is lake specific. Thank you

Thanks for the recommendation. I just ordered one. Maybe it will help me graduate from dinks to hogs!

Sometimes they don’t move at all. What part of the country do you fish ?

I am fishing mainly the Upper Potomac and the main stem of the Shenandoah

Here is a good one-targeted towards fly anglers but still applicable

Gotcha. Never been to that area but I know some folks that fish it. On those rivers , I would guess they don’t have a large reservoir to relax for the winter and casually chase baitfish. So they will most likely seek out stable deepish water, although might catch some rays shallow on a sunny afternoon . The deeper pools will have more stable water speed as well as temp. The cold night air won’t chill the deeper water as quickly as it does the shallows
